Flintlock duelling pistol by Robert Wogdon, circa 1780, with superb silver inlaid butt, with Damascus barrel, with ramrod. Robert Wogdon was apprenticed to Edward Newton, gunmaker, Grantham, Lincs, in 1748. In 1764 he set himself up as a gunmaker at Cockspur Street, Charing Cross, London, retiring in 1802. Famous for duelling pistols. Poem, "Stanzas on Duelling" by an Irish Volunteer in 1783, began "Hail Wogdon Patron of that Leaden death".
