Late 19th Century, three different, official designations being “Cartridge, Small Arm, Blank, Martini-Henry and Snider Arms [Mark IV]” and “Mark IV, Converted; Patterns 1 and 2”; the latter two being rare conversions of rejected or condemned rolled brass cartridges. Such blanks were principally used to habituate horses to the sounds of gun-fire
