£650
Harold I silver penny, Jewel Cross type, Spink 1163, obverse reads:- +HAROOLD RE+, this from the series of 'Lincoln' dies with the King's head 'pulled back' with a large protruding jaw, the reverse seemingly to read:- +FLRGECN.ON LINC: obviously of Lincoln, I can trace no die-link, the moneyer possibly being Waelraeffen?, see Mossop pl.LX, 10-12, apart from the anomalous spelling of the moneyers name, the piece seems to be an issue of the Lincoln Mint, slightly off-centre VF/GVF, small crack.
