Suffolk interest. Two hand carved wooden figures, depicting interesting characters in history, each mounted on a hand engraved plinth describing who they were, both signed to rear side of plinth 'H. F. Pepper', figures comprise 'Ambrose Rokewood' (Of Coldham Hall, Suffolk. The Rokewood family were wealthy and respected, but were persecuted for their religious beliefs. He was drawn in the Gunpowder Plot by Robert Catesby. rokewood was eventually hanged, drawn and quartered in 1606 with his head being impaled on London Bridge); 'William Corder' (Born Polstead, Suffolk in 1805. Promised to marry Maria Marten. After Maria's Grandmother had a dream that Maria had been murdered in the Red Barn her father found her remains buried there. Corder was hanged for her murder at Bury in 1828. Corders body was dissected for the benefit of students at the West Suffolk Hospital. A book was bound using his skin and a part of his scalp is in the Moyse's Hall Museum, Bury St Edmunds), tallest 31cm approx. (including plinth)
