BWM & Victory Medal named (Lt Col H Lloyd-Williams). MID to ribbon. MID confirmed on Medal Card. Served Royal Welsh Fusiliers, Awarded the DSO and MC. MC L/G 25th August 1916 'For conspicuous gallantry in action. During several days of fighting his skill, courage and enery were invaluable. Though badly bruised by a fragment of shell, he stuck to his duty and continued doing fine work'. DSO L/G 16th September 1918 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in temporary command of a battalion. His flank being exposed, with a quick grasp of the situation he threw back a short defensive flank and then, collecting troops of various units, personally led three counter attacks against the enemy. Hisgallant action checked the enemy and allowed his own troops to form a new line. His complete disregard of personal danger set a fine example and inspired the men with the greatest confidence'. His entry in the DSO book includes a photo "b.16/10/1889, m. Dorothy Marion, d. of the late Major the Hon F. Le Poer-Trench, 2nd s. of the 3rd Earl of Clancarty; educ Friars School, Bangor; University of Wales; joined OTC 1909; was First President of Central S.R.C. University of Wales, was prominent Sprinter, Footballer and Oarsman at University. MC for operations around La Boisselle, Contalmaison, High Wood July 1916. DSO for 3rd Army near Fremicourt". (2)
