Lloyds Medal for Meritorious Service (Oval) engraved 'to E L Fitch'. 2nd Engineer Ernest Layzell Fitch of the British steamship Matoppo was awarded the medal for his extraordinary exertions on the occasion of the Matoppo losing her propeller blade at sea on 3rd Nov 1904, 600 miles off Cape Town.
