Anglo-Saxon silver penny of Cnut, Quatrefoil Type, S.1157, 1.14g. Obverse reads:- CNVT REX ANGLOX ('O' has central pellet), reverse reads:- +EDMVND ON NOR (The first 'O' is actually of 'horseshoe' form). There is a die-sinker's fault in the first quarter where he initially cut the top segment of the quatrefoil in the wrong position, this reverse die being fresh and still exhibiting stratifications across its field. The cataloguer knows of 13 others but none from this pair of dies. Almost certainly from the 'Cambridge Hoard'. EF
