Revolver: An interesting US Colt model 1860 army revolver converted to a CSA "Belly Gun" during the US Civil War after capture by the Confederate 42nd Virginia Regiment. The revolver was manufactured in 1861 and issued in October that year most likely to Company C, 4th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. Serial No 21856 on barrel, frame and brass trigger guard. The original one piece walnut grips have "42 VA" carved into the L/H grip. This indicates after capture the revolver was used by the 42nd Virginia Regiment. These 4 inch barrel conversions are a standard length for percussion "Belly Guns." The "42 VA" mark on the grip we believe to be totally correct. The SN 21856 is taken from the Springfield Research Service. Revolver SN 21855 was also issued to the 4/0 Vols. A lovely piece of US Civil War history.
