Rifle - a .577 Snider MkII, 3 band Volunteer model, double line lockplate marked 'Smith', most likely Sam & Charles Smith of 64 Princess Street, Soho and 18 Oxenden Street, Haymarket (1850-1875) or George Smith who was at various addresses in Grosvenor Square 1859-1867 and then in Bond Street and New Bond Street, Oxford Street and Park Lane to 1874, finally closing after 1891. Brass butt plate, trigger guard and nosecap, steel barrel bands, lock and hammer pitted, lock crisp on 1st and 2nd cock. Lock hammer screw missing, no ramrod. Good walnut stock. No licence required
