BWM & Victory Medal (2/Lieut C C Chittenden. Buffs) with box of issue. Awarded the George Medal L/G 8/7/1941, whilst serving as a Lieut in the 256th Pioneer Corps, award reccomended by Birkenhead Town Council. "When houses were demolished by enemy action, a rescue party under the direction of Lieut Chittenden went to the incident, along with A.Cpl J P Scully Pioneer Corps (awarded the George Cross for same action) he assisted in the rescue of two people from a house in danger of imminent collapse". The GC was a unique award to the Corps. Note: both medals are official replacements for those lost during WW2, his George Medal is known to exist. Scullys GC was sold at auction in 2011 for £72,000.
