Suffolk interest. Three hand carved wooden figures, depicting interesting characters in history, each mounted on a hand engraved plinth describing who they were, two signed to rear side of plinth 'H Pepper', figures comprise 'William Jennens' (A miser of Sudbury. He father died in 1725 just before finishing a magnificent mansion. William never finished in but lived in three basement rooms of the 57 room mansion. The other 54 rooms were shut off till his death. He was never known to do one charitable act); 'John Elwes' (The notorious miser of Stoke, Suffolk, he lived in a state of extreme poverty even though he left 800,000 when he died in 1789); 'John Day' (Suffolk wheelwright and inventor of the submarine in 1774), tallest 30cm approx. (including plinth)
