Gallipoli WW1 interest - a rare original photo (11cm x 6.5cm) of a ship being loaded with horses and equipment. Reverse annotated "Ready to embark on SS Minneapolis for the Dardanelles April 21st 1915. I was in charge of stables that day and that is me in the act of visiting stablemen. the stripe and cross flags can just be distinguished on my arm". The Gallipoli landings took place 25th April 1915. Later the SS Minneapolis was a Suvla Bay on the 1st day of the August campaign. She was later torpedoed and sunk by U-35 on a voyage from Marseille to Alexandria. With 5 other smaller photos. (6 items)
