Mercantile Marine Medal and BWM to (Andrew A. Borland) plus minatures. Pair of minature Boer War Medals with related family letters. And QE2 Naval LSGC Medal (J923510H A A Borland CPO HMS Fisgard). Lot includes various original newspaper cuttings, badges etc. Research reveals he was awarded the French Legion d'Honour L/G 23 Oct 1931 "The King has been pleased to give and grant unto Andrew Angus Borland formerly Master of the S.S.Arabestan. His Majesty's Royal Licence and authority to wear the Insignia of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, which Decoration has been conferred upon him by the President of the French Republic, in recognition of valuable services rendered by him to the French S.S. Asia when this ship caught fire at Jeddah on May 21st, 1930". He helped save around 800 pilgrims. Born Glasgow, he commanded an oil tanker in WW1 and was torpedoed, but saved the ship.
