Colchester interest. Three hand carved wooden figures, depicting interesting characters in history, each mounted on a hand engraved plinth describing who they were, each signed to rear side of plinth 'H. F. Pepper', figures comprise 'William Gilberd' (The Father of Electricity. Born in Colchester in 1544 he became personal doctor to Queen Elizabeth I. He had a passion for science and spent vast sums on experiments. Gilberd managed to cap loadstone with soft iron which augmented its power. He was buried at Colchester in 1603, the same year as the death of Elizabeth I); 'Frank Osborn' (Of Colchester Essex. He was a Goldsmith and Highwayman, executed at Tyburn on Friday 12th September, 1690, aged 29); 'Robert Wass' (A well known waiter at the Red Lion, Colchester, in 1770), tallest 28cm approx. (including plinth)
