Suffolk interest. Three hand carved wooden figures, depicting interesting characters in history, each mounted on a hand engraved plinth describing who they were, each signed to rear side of plinth 'H Pepper', figures comprise 'Matthew Hopkins (Witch finder general of Wenham Suffolk, Responsible for hundreds of men and womens deaths. in 1647, he was denounced as a wizard and after failing his own tests he was hanged); 'Thomas Cavandish' (Born in Trimley St. Martin Suffolk. First sailed under Sir Walter Ralegh, he was the second Englishman to sail round the world. Note - slight damage to sword); 'Mary Wattisham' (Of Wattisham Suffolk. In 1762, at the age of sixteen she developed a flesh eating disease, resulting in both her feet coming off, a similar fate happened to members of her family), tallest 29.5cm approx. (including plinth)
